WASHINGTON, D.C. – Heartland is pleased to announce a brand-new contract with the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Office of Indian Economic Development for Electrification Grant Support.

Over the next five years, Heartland will work closely with the BIA to provide financial and technical assistance in expanding electrical capabilities for Indian reservations across the country. The team will assist in the implementation of Distributed Energy Resources (DER), including solar PV generation, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to grid connected and off-grid tribal communities. Technical advisory will be provided to tribal communities in strategic placement of renewable energy sources (RES) throughout tribal reservations.

Implementation of these zero-emissions energy systems will increase resiliency for remote communities, in which electrical infrastructure is vulnerable to disturbances, and will reduce the carbon footprint from centralized fossil fuel generation. Heartland has provided similar performance monitoring and progress assessment and electrification and energy efficiency projects with other clients including the Department of Energy and the Department of Agriculture. This expanded partnership will not only provide vital electrical support for the Office of Indian Economic Development’s regions in the United States, but also assist in coordinating with tribal communities in advancing their economic development and infrastructure modernization.

“As a certified Indian Small Business Economic Enterprise, we are particularly excited to begin this new project for the BIA Office of Indian Economic Development. With the goal of modernizing tribal infrastructure to further strengthen the efforts of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, we are confident in the positive impact this will bring to the tribal communities.”  John English, Heartland Consulting’s Chief Executive Officer, said. “Heartland is uniquely equipped to manage this project and provide financial and technical support on the ground.”
